Bruce Foster MD
is a practicing family doctor at Thomas Memorial
Hospital in
South Charleston West Virginia. After the
death, or as he likes say the graduation, of his father
he developed a passion to empower others to be in charge
of their heath care decisions particularly in regard to
end-of-life issues. He stresses the need of advanced
directives, such as living wills and medical power of
attorney forms. His unique down to earth style enables
other to discuss the often-taboo subject of one’s own
death.
Dr. Foster was
born in Wilmington, Delaware and survived educational
experiences at the Tower Hill School in Wilmington;
Washington and Jefferson College in Washington,
Pennsylvania; and Jefferson Medical College in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He fled the east coast with
his high school sweetheart (now his wife of 30+ years)
to a dead end road in the mountains of West Virginia.
His current
activities include the solo family medicine practice,
Chair of the Ethics and Institutional Review Board
committee of Thomas Memorial Hospital, Director of
palliative care services for Thomas Memorial Hospital
and Medical advisor for the West Virginia Center for
end-of-life. He is the author the book Death and
dying or Can you Love me Enough to Let Me Go? and is
a frequent presenter at various seminars, continuing
educational programs, and local radio shows.
